Sweet merciful god, was this the first time this driver had ever been on a track or drove this car? I didn’t see a single apex hit. If you can see the apex through the window of a camera mounted on the right side of a helmet, you’re missing it by 10+ feet. Multiple instances of sitting on the rev limiter ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! was egregious). Not downshifting, early upshifts one second, rev limiter the next. Late braking on some corners, slow approach on others. Using automatic shifts in Corsa would have cut 4-5 seconds off the lap, at minimum. Getting someone with a modicum of track/lap experience would have shaved a good deal more. I just can’t get over how garbage this lap is...and flabbergasted that they would use it as their representative lap. During one of the exterior shots he almost puts it in the wall. Gah.

Good lord. That was like my first attempt at Gran Turismo

Some say he usually works in the printing room and that he rides a bicycle to work. He's not the Stig, but he is Gary the office assistant!

Well.... At least it's free to watch.

That’s my problem with C&D’s annual lightning lap. They use like a half dozen drivers
(
if not more) with widely varying skill levels to determine which car is “fastest.

Senior Editor. Guessing he got dibs.

right? while motortrend uses pobst with a proven track record, tons of experience and above all consistency!

I mean, they literally did have to go pull it out of the woods after they had an off... they probably stopped after that.

I kinda get why they’d do this, though. A race car driver will ALWAYS PUSH for best laps no matter what. On the other hand, a generic car writer is a bit more repr esentative of a more adventurous, but slow , supercar owner.
Also, at least Ford didn’t wuss out of C/D’s testing. Still kinda salty that they didn’t show up for Moto r Trend.

Maybe I’m wrong but don’t the cars get driven by lots of drivers and they just take the best lap? It was sloppy but maybe that’s the fastest time anybody ran?
I’mI’m torn o n the single driver approach with Poebst and the stig. It really only shows how fast Randy can drive the car, not necessarily how fast the car can go.
The really need multiple PRO drivers to get an accurate range of times for each car.

I never understood why people actually put their wheels onto those bumpers on the side of the track. I haven’t ever put in any road track time so I’m sure theres a reason but you’d think it would slow you down and destabilize the car

Watch F1. They’re all over the curbs.

I do watch F1. It still doesn’t make sense in my head lol

I would assume this was an “exhibition” lap for filming purposes. If you’re trying to get the best speed out of it, i presume you wouldn’t have a bunch of drag-inducing cameras hanging on the outside of it.

Sometimes, straighter > smoother.

It’s the fastest line around the track and also provides feedback to the driver that they hit the apex. The side of the car that touches the curb is unloaded so it doesn’t destabilize the car.

No, I don’t believe the Lambo lap is the worst lap ever published.

Ah that makes much more sense. I can’t wait to have enough money saved to hit some track days myself
